The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is relined. The pigment layer is stable and under a clear varnish that has yellowed with age. There is minor frame abrasion to the extreme edges and a very small disturbance at lower right. There is an overall unobtrusive network of craquelure. Under natural light, touch-ups to address the aforementioned frame abrasion and scattered tiny repairs are visible. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered short strokes of inpainting to address craquelure, primarily to the darker pigments. There is a short and thin horizontal line of repair to Oroonoco at his midsection, possibly a restored tear. The painting should be hung in its present state and is offered with a giltwood frame. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
